Touch screen sensitivity is frustrating, have to press hard enough to work. Garmin nüvi 200W 4.3-Inch Widescreen Portable GPS NavigatorNuvi 200w craftsmanship is cheap compare to other higher Nuvi models. Worst thing is the dealer sent me a used model, a small paint scratch is noticeable on the seams and stain underneath the LCD display appeared after few weeks.
Also, the unit gets the direction of travel wrong quite often, particularly when starting from a parking lot. Given the price point (I got it for $139) you can't really complain too much, though. The power cable attachment is a bit problematic, too. Pros: Satellite tracking is much much faster (the old unit would sometimes take a couple of minutes, this unit seems to have the location by the time the system has started up); processor is also much faster (finds names in a fraction of the time and maps are drawn faster). I also don't like the new graphics so much.
Can compare unit to garmin c320 which I have had for a few years. Also, while the c320 had no difficulties finding our house, the 200w locates our house some 100 meters away from where it is (and our location has been around for about 50 years; it's not a new development). Even in this one week I have gone the opposite direction three or four times. The c320's graphics were super straightforward, the graphics in the 200w seem a bit more like in a videogame.Overall: Apart from the speaker I think this unit is quite useful but the database is remarkably outdated. Bought unit a week ago but have already returned it because the speaker was defective.
Cons: Apart from the broken speaker, the unit doesn't seem to have an updated data base - even roads or stores that have been around for a few years are not to be found. In contrast to the old c320 you have to take out the cable each time.
The mapping and directions work as well as any, and I have no complaints there. The unit came with a "free upgrade" to a newer map, but the new map CAN'T BE INSTALLED, because the unit has too little memory (um, so why don't they have a map that can be installed).
Astonishingly slow USB updates (as in an HOUR to install a map).All-in-all, I'm sorry that I bought a Garmin. Garmin's written response was that I bought a low-end unit; true enough, but if they sell it, I expect them to support it.Other annoyances include a EULA that you have to click or wait for every single time you turn on the unit.
I was able to install a subset map, but not one that covers both the Northeast and Northwest, the two areas I need. Unchangable "abcde" keyboard, instead of "qwerty".
I bought the Nuvi 200W as a basic automobile GPS, and it is. But Garmin and their support are terrible.
Very slow satellite syncing.
directions are not always the best but it never gets me lost. i use it all the time. Must have.
I like this model very much, gave me peace of mind when travelling alone recemtly. Still found a need to have googlemap as a backup.
